ICCCN 2011 – Track on Optical Networks for Grid and Cloud Computing (ONGCC)
Advances in optical technologies have enabled high-capacity, low-cost optical networks that are widely deployed in access, metro, backbone, storage, network domains. Increasingly optical networks play an important role in interconnecting distributed computing and data centres infrastructures in order to facilitate grid and cloud computing environments. In order to efficiently design such networks, the interplay between the IT (grid, cloud) and transport (optical) layer must be considered. Many research challenges remain to achieve the goal of transparent and on-demand delivery of optimised services to the end-user. This track focuses on the technologies and architectures that will enable the deployment of optical networks underpinning next-generation Internet including computers and highly interconnected data centers. The track is seeking novel contributions on architectures, algorithms, system design and hardware and software developments to build networks capable of meeting the demands of current and emerging applications.
